Since the 2016 Presidential Election came to a conclusion, it has seemed like the entire political world has been on some sort of topsy-turvy ride. With Republicans in the White House, led by the still unbelievably ill-equipped Donald Trump, we have seen the United States slide further and further away from many of its core values. One of the foundations of the United States as a nation is the separation of church and state. The Johnson Amendment was introduced by Lyndon Johnson and Dwight Eisenhower in a bipartisan effort to keep religious institutions out of the core proceedings of politics. This amendment gave churches 501(C)(3) status which made them exempt from taxes, in return they would not cater to partisan politics. Donald Trump, as part of his agenda to destabilize the core values of the United States, has set sights on eroding this amendment.
It was early May when Donald Trump issued his first executive order taking aim at the Johnson Amendment. In the order, Trump told the IRS to quit prosecuting churches and religious organizations that refused to follow the law. So much for the party of ‘law and order’, right? This was just the beginning, however, as the latest Republican tax plan introduces a section that would effectively declaw the Johnson Amendment. This tax plan would open up the doors for massive influxes of political money to flow through religious institutions, thus giving political lobbyists another path to pump their money into Washington D.C.
End Citizens United is a political action committee that has spent the past two years fighting for campaign finance reform in Washington D.C. Like the rest of America, End Citizens United has been fundamentally disgusted by the flood of dark money into politics that has been turning the tide of the government against the people. The Citizens United Supreme Court decision, which was made back in 2010, centered on a conservative propaganda group that was arguing to allow corporations to have the same rights as people. Among those rights, Citizens United wanted corporations to be allowed to use monetary political donations as an extension of their ‘free speech’. Absurd, we know, but that was the approach that conservatives have been touting for years now. End Citizens United was established in order to overturn that decision and thus make their name a reality.
End Citizens United has a keen eye focused on campaign finance reform in all aspects, and that has them particularly focused on the hubbub surrounding the Johnson Amendment. Tiffany Muller is the president of the End Citizens United PAC and she has been vocal about her support of the Johnson Amendment. Muller believes that if the Johnson Amendment is repealed, churches will become private piggy banks for politicians at the highest level of the government. In the United States over the past few years, the political infrastructure and platform has become drastically transformed and End Citizens United is at the helm trying to navigate through the muddy waters. As a result of the unfortunate 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision that determined that the limits on corporate financial expenses in governmental and presidential elections enclosed in the federal Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act infringed on the First Amendment rights of free speech. The ruling made by the Supreme Court radically changed politics at hand determining that the government could not confine organizations, businesses and labor unions from making independent contributions in sponsoring or opposing those running for office. Americans are now voicing their increased frustration and outrage to how the political system is being both maneuvered and controlled to suit the agenda of the elite. This completely negates the point of the voting process altogether. The system at best is now being manipulated as a result of the Supreme Court ruling and End Citizens United has determined to expose the corruption and have that decision overturned. These same assemblies of people who are in the form of special interest groups, who facilitated the 2010 ruling has now set their sights on rescinding the Johnson amendment which prevents church money from being used in politics. End Citizens United has now turned their attention toward the agenda and people responsible. In a recent news briefing, End Citizens United president surmised that the tax plan being formed will include repealing the act and this will kick the door in for churches being used an instrument for clandestine campaign spending. President Dwight Eisenhower introduced the Johnson Act in 1954 during his stay in the White House. Republican congressionals want to revise the Johnson Act so they can reform it to give partisan rewarding and treatment to church organizations and at the same time require other groups to act in accordance with this.
With the expressed and intended aim of ending these special interest groups in politics, End Citizens United labors to expose their efforts and work both legislatively and secularly to overturn them. They’ve formed liaisons with grassroots activists, in an effort to generate capital for the aforementioned reasons and further reinforce their efforts over big Washington’s strong arms that have had a stranglehold in American legislation for eons of time. These groups extinguish any act of liberty, fairness and justice and End Citizens United has amalgamated to put an end to it. ECU is devoted to thwarting the catastrophic consequences of Citizens United and restructuring the areas of the United States governmental campaign capital system. They’ve been able to generate approximately $25 in last year’s capital report. Visit: http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/end-citizens-united-pac-wants-make-its-name-reality
