Academy of Art Shines at New York Fashion Week

Every year, New York Fashion Week offers a platform for young fashion designers to show off their hard work on runway stages. This year was no different for the Academy of Art in that it held its 21st student runway showcase at Skylight Clarkson Square.

The Academy of Art University is the premier San Fransisco based art school that fosters innovation in the designers of tomorrow by featuring a faculty of world-class industry professionals, highly equipped, state of the art facilities, and a varied curriculum that includes specialization in design, entertainment, fine art, and liberal arts. With a diverse student body, the school has a rich and globalized worldview that enhance the creative instincts of students.

The diverse backgrounds of the designers at the NYFW runway show led to a range of ideas and craft techniques that were explored in a unique way as a collective and were presided over by notable fashion personalities, educational directors, and student mentors. As noted earlier, the top fashion statements from the Academy of Art came from an eclectic range of voices from coastal Maine to mainland China with students using their powers of observation, photography, and construction to inspire their designs. Students mined their own experiences in nature, solitary emotions and memories of loved ones over a multitude of hours in the classroom, workshops, and internships to shape a variety of fabrics into forms for the runway.

Students that wish to one day have their own creations featured on the NYFA runway should not shy away from applying to the Academy of Art. No prior portfolio is required and students can receive instruction and mentorship from several leading industry professionals. As a result, many alumni have gone on to extremely successful professional careers. The featured runway at New York Fashion Week is a step into the industry that the Academy of Art can offer ambitious designers with a vision.
